What we store and send: in short, nothing you type.

Nothing you type leaves your browser.

What you type stays on your device. Our tools translate it right there, with a braille engine your browser downloads once. We use Google Analytics to count visits to our pages. We show no ads and load no other scripts from other companies. We can keep two small values in your browser: your theme, once you use the theme button, and the text you pass to the decoder, once you press the button that sends it there.

In this policy, “we” and “us” mean UEB Translator, the site at uebtranslator.com. One independent developer in India runs it.

Last updated October 4, 2026.

This policy covers everyone who uses uebtranslator.com. By using the site, you accept it. If you don't, you can just leave. Nothing you typed has been sent anywhere.

What we collect

Nothing from the tools. We have no accounts, no sign-up, no comments and no forms, so we never ask for your name, your email address or anything else about you. The only personal information we ever hold is an email you choose to send us. “If you email us” below covers that. Google Analytics records visits to our pages; “Analytics” below says what it sees.

How your browser enforces this

Every page tells your browser to refuse connections to any other address. It does this with a Content-Security-Policy, a set of rules the browser applies to the page. Ours includes connect-src 'self'. As MDN's connect-src reference explains, that directive limits where the page's scripts can send requests, whether through fetch(), XMLHttpRequest, WebSocket, EventSource or sendBeacon(). Ours allows uebtranslator.com and Google Analytics' addresses, and nothing else. Our tools never hand your text to Analytics, and only the address of the page you're on, without anything after it, is sent to Google.

The same policy lets the page load scripts, fonts and the braille engine only from our site (and the Google Analytics tag from Google). And our site is just a set of static files. There's no server program that could receive your text, and no form on any page that sends it anywhere.

Our test suite checks this. It types text into the translator, the decoder, the generator, the contraction lookup and the braille keyboard. The test fails if the browser makes any request to another address than Google Analytics, or any request whose address contains the text.

What we store in your browser

Just two values, kept in your browser's own storage, and only after you choose to store them. Neither one is a cookie. Nothing else you type is saved.

Your theme: theme

Where
localStorage
Set when
You press the theme button in the header, or choose Dark or System in the footer
Holds
“dark” or “system”
Removed when
You choose Light (the default) in the footer, or clear this site's data in your browser

The decoder hand-off: ueb-handoff

Where
sessionStorage, for the current tab only
Set when
You press “Check this in the decoder” under the translator
Holds
The text you were translating and its grade, so the decoder opens with them
Removed when
The decoder opens and reads it, or at the latest when you close the tab

We never send either value anywhere. Both stay in your browser, on your device.

What our host sees

Cloudflare hosts our site. It sees the requests for our pages, but never your text. Cloudflare's privacy policy says it processes information about the traffic it serves, such as IP addresses and traffic routing data. Any web host gets your IP address, your browser's user agent and the address of the page you asked for, because it needs them to send you the page.

We keep no log files of our own. With no server program, there's nothing to write them. Any request records Cloudflare keeps fall under its policy, and we don't use them to identify visitors. We serve our own fonts, so no font service sees your visit, and Google Analytics is the only other company our pages load anything from.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us. It records the page you view, the page you came from, your rough location, and your device, browser and screen size. It never receives what you type into our tools.

  • Google Analytics sets two cookies: _ga, which tells one visitor from another, and _ga_ followed by our property's ID, which keeps track of your visit. Each lasts up to two years.
  • Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.
  • If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we keep Analytics cookies off for you. When analytics storage is turned off, Google Analytics neither reads nor writes its cookies and sends only cookieless measurements.
  • You can stop Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser. Our tools work the same either way.

Google handles this data under the Google Privacy Policy. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising and cookies

There are no ads on our site today. We may show Google AdSense ads in future, below the tools only. If we do:

We'll update this page and its date before the first ad appears.

If you email us

If you write to support@uebtranslator.com, Cloudflare Email Routing forwards your message to our inbox. We use your address and your message only to write back and to look into what you reported. We don't add anyone to a mailing list, and we never sell or share your email.

Other sites' privacy policies

This policy covers uebtranslator.com only. Our pages link to other sites, such as ICEB, the liblouis project and organisations that teach braille. When you follow a link, that site's own privacy policy applies, and we have no control over it. Cloudflare's policy, linked above, covers what it handles as our host. Google's policy covers Google Analytics. If we add ads, Google's policy and those of any ad partners will apply to the ads.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, data protection laws such as the GDPR in the EU and the UK, or the CCPA in California, may give you the right to see, correct or delete the personal information a site holds about you, and to object to how it's used. The only personal information we hold is an email you sent us. Visit data from Google Analytics is held by Google and shown to us only as totals.

To ask about an email you sent, or to ask us to delete it, write to support@uebtranslator.com from the same address. The two values in your browser never reach us. You can remove them yourself by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Children

We don't ask anyone for personal information, including children under 13. A child can use every tool without giving any details. A parent or guardian can ask us to delete a child's email in the same way.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top changes with it. Our terms and conditions cover the rest of your use of the site.
